Private Excursion on the water

What the Sail Looks Like

A Private Excursion is a custom sailing day. You choose the duration, the destinations, and the rhythm. Two hours minimum, up to ten. Anywhere from a relaxed half day around Petty Island to a long pull north to Bristol or south to Wilmington town docks, with the captain working out a float plan that fits the conditions and the time you want on the water.

The destinations on this trip sit outside the usual tour routes. North toward Bristol, the Delaware opens up. The water gets cleaner, the banks get greener, and the working waterfront gives way to small towns, boatyards, and the kind of river scenery most Philadelphians have never seen. Going south, the trip to Wilmington brings a different industrial character and the chance to sail under bridges that frame the city from a new angle. Wrapping a private day around Petty Island and the Philadelphia waterfront stays close to home and leaves more time for sailing instruction, lazy reaches across the river, and learning the boat.

Whatever the float plan, the boat is private to your group from the moment you step aboard. Up to six guests in the cockpit, a captain who has spent years on this water, and the freedom to take the day at your own pace.

We meet at the Phila Sail location on Google Maps, just south of the Independence Seaport Museum along the Penn’s Landing waterfront. Plan to arrive ten to twenty minutes before your start time so the captain can run through the safety brief and review the float plan with you. Once we cast off, the day belongs to you and your group. Bring non-spray sunscreen, hats, soft-soled shoes, and any food or drink beyond the basics we provide. Layers are smart, since the air on the river feels a few degrees cooler than the dock and you’ll be aboard for longer than the shorter sails.
